Dani scanned down the email, reading from what appeared to be an anonymous eyewitness tip, detailing the sighting of two black SUVs with darkened windows, driven by “military-looking people.” The tipster went on to describe nearly turn by turn where the SUVs had taken their cargo, and then included haphazardly taken photos of hooded figures being hurried into a facility.

The email ended with a map—inserted from one of the online map services. A pin indicated what Dani assumed was the location from the photos.

Her new informant had given her everything, straight down to the physical coordinates and an address. And though it was impossible to know if the hooded figures were, in fact, the missing congresspeople, there was no denying that this tip would have to be followed up with an investigation.

Dani’s phone buzzed, and she took it from her pocket to look at the text.

The number was blocked, but the message was clear.
